Best Printables on the Web for Teaching Kids to Brush

Do you have a little one at home who is just learning to brush her teeth? Have you had difficulty finding success in this task? Dr. Kimmy understands the challenges facing parents as they attempt to teach their children the correct way to brush, and likes to offer suggestions from time to time to help these braves souls out. In the past, the doctor has talked about websites with fun videos and games, but today, she offers suggestions for online activity pages that you can download and print at home. These free tools help you teach your child and make it fun for both of you. For more ideas, or to schedule an appointment, call our Manhasset, NY, dental office today at (516) 365-4-KID.

The American Dental Association (ADA) has put together a website geared exclusively towards teaching your children good brushing habits. Along with games and videos, the website offers a plethora of printable coloring and activity pages. The site has pages geared towards holidays such as Christmas and Halloween, when children eat more sweets than they do the rest of the year. They have special printables focused on the tooth fairy, including a lost tooth certificate and a chart to help your child track which teeth she has lost. They even have some pages with your child’s favorite Sesame Street characters, including a “super brushing zone” door hanger and a puzzle you can cut up and have your child put together and color.

Geared towards children a little bit older, the Kool Smiles site has a ton of printable pages to teach your kiddos about brushing and other aspects of oral health. The pages on this site help you teach your children about the importance of fluoride, what to do when they lose a baby tooth, and how to have a successful checkup at the dentist’s office. Kids will find plenty of pages teaching them about the best snacks for their health and the health of their teeth. Like the ADA website, the Kool Smiles site includes pages for many different holidays, so you can work with your child all year long. The site even includes a printable Halloween letter that your child can fill in and send to a soldier with some of the treats she collected.

This site, geared towards teaching the philosophy of brushing for two minutes, twice a day, includes a printable chart for your child to follow along with. We all know that one of the easiest ways to teach a child a certain behavior is to reward them for said behavior. The chart included on the 2min2x website goes for one week, and has two checkboxes for each day. Your child checks a box each time she brushes for two minutes. The chart has a space at the bottom to write in what award the child will receive if she manages to fill in all the boxes in a week.

This website offers many types of behavior charts to help teach your child. You will find charts here to track your child’s brushing habits. The charts resemble the 2min2x chart, but most of them run for a whole month. You can choose to reward your child with something small each week she completes all of the checkboxes, then present her with a bigger reward when she successfully completes a whole month.
